A New Great Baseball Nickname

There are very few good nicknames in baseball these days. In fact, off the top of my head, only The Rocket comes to mind as a good, enduring nickname.

They call Derek Jeter the Captain, but that's just because he's the captain. A-Rod is A-Rod, because of that goofy trend of abbreviating first and last names. Slammin' Sammy isn't bad, but it's just a ripoff of Hammerin' Hank.

But these all pale in comparison to the great nicknames in history, including the Georgia Peach, the Yankee Clipper, the Sultan of Swat or even the Hawk. And Scarface. I like Scarface.

Here at Wriglevyille, we are partial to nicknames based on physical characteristics. The Splendid Splinter. Three Finger Brown. Oh, and the Big Unit.

So, in the spirit of the great Cub Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown, it is time Michael Barrett is given a new nickname.

That's right: One Nut Barrett.
