Stupid Fan Tricks
The throwing of home run balls back on to the field long ago grew tiresome. Now this:
CHICAGO – Throwing an opponent’s home run ball back onto the field has long been a tradition for Chicago Cubs fans. But how about 15 balls flying back onto the grass at Wrigley Field?
That’s what happened Wednesday night after Cincinnati’s Adam Dunn homered in the eighth inning. Most of the souvenirs wound up in right field, although the ball shower came from all angles and briefly held up the game. The Cubs were leading 11-3 at the time.
“That’s something I hadn’t seen before. I don’t know what to say. It stopped, and a few more came in,” Cubs manager Lou Piniella said before Thursday’s game against the Reds.
Update: That said, the reaction referenced in the comments is just ridiculous.

Give me a break... who the hell cares if 15 people thought it would be funny to throw multiple "home run" balls on the field... there was nothing malicious about it, they weren't throwing batteries at players...As for Reds announcer Marty Brennaman and his comments... tell the old man to go back to his quiet little stadium with 3000 people in attendance if he can't handle 40,000 fans having fun. Ridiculous...

Marty Brennaman is a cry baby I agree fans shouldn't throw excess balls on the field but to call Cub fans the worst and rant as long as he did is just Ridiculous go back under your rock Marty and shut up!

I, for one, have grown tired of the throwing the home run ball back, as it has spread to every other city. It's tired.

I've grown tired of it as well, wv, but 15-20 of them was kind of funny. it would be annoying and ridiculous if it happened every time, but this time it was pretty funny. And if Brenneman wants to act the way he did, i say do it every time he's in town.
