Big Z, Pretty Good At Baseball
Carlos Zambrano apparently could have played the Pirates all by himself tonight, wracking up four hits and three runs (two RBI and a run) - the same number of runs the entire Pirates lineup scored.
It's that kind of logic that's going to take Wrigleyville23 places.

Okay, here's the deal. Why doesn't Z pinch hit more. The guy can hit better than more than a few of our postition players. Whatever happened to pitchers also being everyday players? I'm being serious here, I would consider putting Z out there. and don't give me the injury bs, Z is made of iron and we all know it

When were pitchers ever position players? It may have been that way when pitchers were still throwing underhand, but even then I doubt that because the game was centered more around defense than offense. It's fun to say Zambrano should play a position, but it's not going to happen and it never should happen either. He'd be exposed as a terrible hitter if he were playing every day and the injury risk is too much for what you'd get back.

I agree. I would rather have him hit well occasionally and pitch great all the time than hit like crap every day and be an injured player.
