Fire Ned Yost Now
I think there is one thing everybody can agree on in the wake of the Yovanni Gallardo injury: Ned Yost should be fired. Today. Without delay.
As Maddog points out at Another Cubs Blog, the 2007 Cubs MVP left Yo - a 22-year-old future star - in the game for the rest of the fifth inning and the sixth inning after he mangled his leg. Genius.

Yeah, the trainer should have used the MRI machine next to the water cooler on the bench to figure out the ACL injury on the spot.Of course Yost is overusing his starters, but with his bullpen what choice does he have?

Really? You can't see a scenario - short of having an MRI machine next to the water cooler (do they have those on baseball benches?) - where you would want to take your most valuable pitcher out of the game out of an abundance of caution? Rather, out of a minimum of caution?I don't think a lousy bullpen is reason enough to risk further injuring Yo, but that's just me.And, as a Cubs fan, I'm perfectly happy with Ned managing in Milwaukee.

Dave, you don't need the new advance MRI machine that comes with a water cooler to realize that the right decision is to take a 22 year old future star who just a minute earlier lie screaming on the ground in pain. All you need is ears and common sense. But hey, I'm not on board with firing Ned Yost. I hope the Brewers sign him to an extension.

Yeah he went down hard, but then he got up and seemed to be pitching fine. Probably said he didn't feel any pain. He looked OK throwing afterward. In any event, the injury occurred during the play at first. I haven't seen anything that suggests that his additional pitching caused the injury (or aggravated it to the extent it cost him the season). His season was probably over either way.I wonder if I could order a Ned Yost Cubs jersey. Hmmmm....
