Cubs Watching Bay Area Games
The San Francisco Chronicle speculates about why Gary Hughes is spending the weekend with the A's and Giants:
Cub talk: It could be a coincidence, but Gary Hughes, one of the Cubs' top talent evaluators, attended the A's-Giants games just after his club lost Alfonso Soriano to a broken hand. The Cubs are believed to be looking for a left-handed bat, but a source said they have not phoned the Giants about switch-hitting Randy Winn, the outfielder most likely to be shopped. Hughes is based in the Bay Area.
Also, this guy pitched this weekend in that series.

Well, Randy Winn certainly would be a left-handed bat--and little else. (Was that a left-handed compliment?)Actually, I just looked him up; he's not having such a bad year. Would he fit the niche the Cubs need?
