Little Stein Is Getting Angry
After Chien-Ming Wang's baserunning-induced injury, Hank Steinbrenner isn't happy that "his" baseball players are expected to do things that baseball players do:
"My only message is simple. The National League needs to join the 21st century," Steinbrenner said in Tampa, Fla. "They need to grow up and join the 21st century. Am I [mad] about it? Yes. I've got my pitchers running the bases, and one of them gets hurt. He's going to be out. I don't like that, and it's about time they address it. That was a rule from the 1800s."
We can all concede that most "rules from the 1800s" are destroying baseball, but here is a list of other things that Little Stein doesn't like "his" pitchers to do:
1. Cover first base. It's dangerous:
2. Field their position. It's dangerous:
3. Throw the ball. It's dangerous:
The answer, of course, is a pitching machine at all times. And a pitcher's helper. Then - and only then - will Little Stein's investments be properly protected.
