That's Why You Build Seven-Run Leads
The good: Rich Harden, better than advertised. Don't break, please.
The bad: Ryan Theriot offsets a strong day at the plate with an Alex Gonzalezesque error, making the ugly even worse.
The ugly: Carlos Marmol, who just needs to take a break and think about what he's done.
Even so, the Cubs have the best record in baseball with one game until the break.
Update: Good day all around. Brewers lose and Cards blow a six-run lead to lose in 10.

Marmol just looks exhausted. His ERA in June was 7.36 in July it's 13.50. I think he needs some extended time off.

I agree, ccd. I think the Cubs would be wise to option him to the minors for awhile. Give him a week off to just rest and then have him report to Iowa. He's blown 2 large leads recently. If you can't have a guy come into a game with a 5-run lead knowing it's in control, you just can't use that pitcher.

Yeah, Marmol is radioactive now, unfortunately. He needs time at Iowa, I think. He's got nothin' right now. Len and Bob mentioned today that it was bad enough that he faced 10 guys in the ninth, but even worse is that he struck out nobody. TEN guys in a row put the ball in play, or otherwise reached base; that is another way of saying "um, you suck, dude".
