Ned Yost Fired
Desperation time in Milwaukee:
"This was a very difficult move to make, and we appreciate all of the work that Ned has done to develop this team into a contender," Melvin said. "In the end, this was a collaborative decision made to put our Club in the best position for the final two weeks of the season."
We don't celebrate firings here, but one has to ask: Would the Brewers be in the "best position for the final two weeks of the season" if they had done this after last season?
A theory: I don't think the Brewers fired Ned because they wanted to make the playoffs this year (and of course they do) - but because they feared they WOULD make the playoffs with Ned as manager.
In that case, they didn't want to be stuck with him in 2009.
