MLB: Phillies vs Brewers OCT 4

Hey, Brewers fans! Come out to the ballpark this Aug. 29 and get a bobblehead of ... your favorite New York Yankee!

That's right, the Brewers are sponsoring a promotion in which the team - in conjunction with Palermo's Pizza and Piggly Wiggly - will give away CC Sabathia bobbleheads.

We once jokingly wrote that the Brewers were going to retire Sabathia's number after he pitched 17 games (and 290 innings) for the Brewers before moving on to greener pastures in New York. Some Brewers bloggers believed it, and a good time was had by all.

This sort of feels like that: Perhaps the Brewers are pretending to commemorate a player who spent a half of a season (and a postseason appearance) playing for the team. That's not all that funny, though, so I'm not sure I see the point.

Other bobblehead giveaways this season seem serious (or at least most of them). They include Bernie Brewer, Hank Aaron, Cecil Cooper (the manager of the Houston Astros), Robin Yount, the Miller Lite beer vendor and the Klement's Sausage Italian Racing Sausage.

I was thinking that the Cubs could do the same for Nomar.

it's like catnip with brewers fans, as this guy gets very grumpy: http://twitter.com/Future_MLB_Doc
It's not what you think

The Brewers are celebrating their 40 years in Milwaukee this year by have a "retro weekend" for each decade (http://www.jsonline.com/sports...18977.html). On Friday night, they'll wear retro-unis from that decade and feature a star from that era. On Sunday, they'll give out a bobblehead featuring a highlight from that era.

In the 1970s, it's Gorman Thomas in person and Hank Aaron hitting #755 as the bobble. In the 1980s, it's Yount/Molitor in person with a Cecil Cooper '82 ALCS bobble. For the 2000s, the bobblehead is CC getting the final out of the Wild Card-clinching game in 2008. Of course it sounds silly when you think of it as giving a bobblehead for a player on another team, but it does make a lot of sense if you look at it from the Brewers' perspective.
Wait a tic...

CC is more emblematic of the 2000-era Brewers than Ben Sheets, Ryan Braun, or Prince Fielder?

How does this make sense from the Brewers perspective again?

If there's one highlight in the 2000s worth honoring, it's the Brewers reaching the postseason in 2008. And since they've already done a bobblehead of Braun's home run from that game, the only other moment to consider is the final out of the game. It's only crazy if you want it to be crazy.

When I think of the Brewers of the 2000's I think of Juan Acevedo. But that's just me.

Not sure if you're joking about the Miller Lite guy or if that's really what you heard, but there's no bobblehead of him. The other two bobbleheads are the Italian Racing Sausage and Bernie Brewer (http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/83893907.html).

They've been giving out one racing sausage bobblehead a year for the past 4 years (given out on the day of the Klement's charity 5k run-walk). The Italian is the fifth and presumably final bobble of the group. And Bernie is, well, Bernie. They have nothing to do with the 4 decades celebration.
I will say this:

It's nice to see that Brewers fans can handle the CC departure with aplomb, and celebrate him in his absence, no matter how bizarre that may seem. If this were the Cubs, and Cub fans were given a CC bobblehead, they'd be smashing the things in the aisles for his "betrayal," or some such nonsense.

Wow, I completely missed that. I don't think they mentioned it at all in either of those articles I linked. I'm betting it's one of those mini-bobbleheads.

Whatever the case, I think it sounds pretty cool. If Miller can't give out a Miller Lite dude bobblehead in Miller Park, that's just silly. It might actually be enough to get me to go to that Saturday night Pirates game...
