Tony La Russa suggests he wouldn't be a good fit as the manager of the Cubs:
"You've got a double-headed whammy there. I have a lot of friends and fans that I'm close to with the White Sox. And you know White Sox and Cubs, they don't mix. I've got friends and fans that I'm close to in St. Louis, and the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cubs don't mix. So I think if there is one place that I don't fit, just because of my past, it would be the Chicago Cubs."

If the Cubs and their fans can welcome Jim Edmonds (eventually), they certainly should be able to tolerate Tony La Russa and all that comes with it - if the goal is to, you know, win baseball games and even playoff series. He's pretty good at that.
But if the Trib were to put up one of their polls - "Who should the Cubs hire as their next manager, Tony La Russa or Ryne Sandberg?" - I'm guessing it would go 85-15 for Sandberg.
While I'm a big fan of Ryno (the baseball player, not the sanctimonious Hall of Famer), I'd go with La Russa 100 times out of 100 over Sandberg. The man wins. A lot.
(Thus ends this week's episode of blogging about things that will never, ever happen.)
