Jeff Samardzija Takes Swipe At Bradley

Paul Sullivan loves to write about Milton Bradley. His latest gives Jeff Samardzija a chance to kick his former teammate:

Milton Who? A radio reporter asked pitcher Jeff Samardzija the importance of adding a good clubhouse guy to the mix.

"As opposed to what?" Samardzija said with a laugh. "Who are you implying?"

The reporter obviously was referring to Bradley, a clubhouse distraction in '09.

"When you're on each others' side and everyone is on the same page, it means a lot," Samardzija said. "It makes going out and playing the game a whole lot easier."

Know what else makes playing baseball easier? Having a pitcher who can manage better than a 7.53 ERA or 1.760 WHIP.

Then again, it was probably very difficult to pitch with that angry man patrolling right field. So distracting for Jeff's delicate sensibilities.

(In the linked story, Sullivan also reports that the Cubs are taking a look at Jermaine Dye.)

Crazy! If you're going to take a swipe at someone, you'd best be a decent ballplayer.

Maybe Jeff is just a little cranky because he's running low on VO5. When Jeff doesn't get his hot oil treatment, Jeff gets cranky.

That's a pretty meager swipe. It just seems like Sullivan making something out of nothing. It's not like the Milton who? part was a quote or anything. I've heard Samardzija say some dumb things, but I don't think this is in the top 5. Just sounds like a reporter was goading him into saying something about Bradley and he laughed at the guy for it, then gave a generic answer.

I hate Paul Sullivan. He can't even do his own interviews anymore, he's gotta eavesdrop on other people's.

He still took the opportunity to tell the media how much sweller things are going to be. I think things would be sweller if Samardzija could pitch.

I think the Cubs should cut any player that uses Bradley as an excuse for shitty performance. I don't care who they are. If they are so mentally weak they can't handle one angry asshole, then they can't handle playoff pressure in this town. Done.

Saying, "Bradley made me play bad," and saying, "I don't like it when we fight," are two different things. If I have to work with a pain in the ass every day, I'm not going to let that affect how I do my job; I might even work harder and focus more. But if that pain in the ass leaves, I'm not going to pretend like I'm sad he's gone. I've done some of my best work for the worst boss I ever had, but when she was gone I was happy, and I let the world know.

That said, if I could choose between a happy Jeff Samdhdkdsk and a disgruntled pain in the ass who could pitch, I'd want the latter. But Samardzija's arrogant douchefest shouldn't matter to us any more than Bradley's a-hole-a-thon. There's no correlation between their lack of character and their lack of production.

Yeah, guys should think about what they say about other players. A team that gets along is probably a good thing, even if it's not important. The world is a better place when Spellcheck keeps his mouth shut. But if the next World Series championship is built on the shoulders of hypersensitive, arrogant idiot babies, I'll take it.

I must have missed what made Spellcheck's comments so terrible and worthy of such vitriol in response. Overreact much guys?

1. I just pointed out that having good baseball players is more useful than having nice guys.

2. Where is the vitriol? Perhaps you overreact?
